About Cedar City

Cedar City is a rich oasis nestled above the Southern Utah desert. The area was first home to ancient civilizations dating back to 1,300 A.D. Pictographs left by ancient people are still visible in the area today. Present day, Cedar City was first established as Fort Cedar by iron miners in 1851 and grew largely after Southern Utah University was founded in 1897. Nowadays, the city’s proximity to many national parks and picturesque scenery make it a popular place to live and play.

Year round, there is an abundance of activities for all ages in the area. Residents can ski at nearby Brian Head resort, hike to Kanarra Falls, enjoy stargazing at Cedar Breaks National Monument, and much more. The city’s strong artistic culture draws renowned art, film, and theater festivals throughout the year. Whether residents like skiing, biking, golfing, climbing, or the arts, Cedar City has the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation making it an ideal place to live.
